Just about everyone who is seriously trying to build their businesses are using Google Adwords now.
But so many people have yet to get a full understanding of the potential, not only for acquiring new customers, but of wasting their spend.
A badly managed campaign can cost more than it brings in, in terms of new business!
One of the classics mistakes is failing to use negative keywords.
Google Adwords allows you to exclude keywords which are not a good match for your product or service, by listing negative keywords. This helps to reduce wasted clicks -significantly.
Another common error is not testing the most cost effective Ad position. It can, perhaps surprisingly, sometimes be better to be in positions 3, 4 or 5, rather than 1 or 2 in the Ad positions. This is because the top two positions get the most clicks, sometimes from people who may or not be genuinely interested.
If you’re positioned slightly lower, then you’re not the first thing people see. People have to look at the side of their screen, so being there acts as a filter, therefore attracting clicks from more genuinely interested potential customers.
Don’t also make the mistake of not checking out your competitor’s Adwords activity. Look at the keywords they are using and click and check out their landing pages, and compare them with your own – is there room for improvement?
Finally, for today, do not expect too much form your Adwords campaign. Many people set off with a tiny budget, and expect to become the ‘next big thing’. It’s rare to get it completely right first time, it takes time to run, tweak, and optimise your campaign.
It takes patience, and more than a little skill and experience, to work out where to get the best possible return!
Good luck, but rather than relying on that, why not call the Top Cat team
